Hi

Newbee here

Great Forum by the way

I am changing out the Stock HU in my Ranger FX4 ( 4L5T-18C869-AE) to a unit from a Ford F150 series (5L2T-18C869-BD)

Both have the standard 16 pin power and speaker connection but the new unit has the additions of a AUX button, SAT Button and the Phone mute function (The 20 pin plug is not fully pinned out in the original HU but is on the new HU). Also I have not found the 20 pin harness plug in the Ranger. Not likely it is even there is my thought

I needed the new HU unit as the original does not enable the Phone muting of the radio for the Bluetooth Handsfree I added from Motorola

(If the Ford Radio mute button don't have the handset symbol embossed on it it will not mute the HU when a call is recieved) This is a function of the Head unit  I am told.

I have two questions:

The new HU has the pin for the Speed input (PIn 9) to enable the speed sensitive Volume on the 20 pin plug

Is there a easy place to pick up this signal on my 2004 Ranger XLT FX4?

Second question: Has anyone tried to put a input connection directly off the CDDJ pins in the 20 pin connector?

16 Shield

17 CD RChan IN

18 CD RChan OUT

19 LChan in

20LeftChan Out

I would like to connect my Sirius Streamer directly to the pins if that is possible with a 3.5mm din connection

I know there are interfaces from PIE to provide RCA connectons but what prevents a direct connection to the input pins on the 20 pin plug for the CDDJ?

What I am thinking is connecting to the CD Rchannel in and CD LChannel in and the return to the Shield pin?

Or is there a pin that needs to be pulled down to make the HU think here is a CDDJ attached to enable either the Aux or SAT buttons?

Or am I looking at line levels that will not handle the output from the Sirius Reciever?

Found the location in a 2003 Ranger as being on the GEM module  just left of the radio

VSS wire------------ gray/black at GEM module (located to the left of the radio)

Now if I can find out about the connections for the aux in I will be all set
