Hi there,

I am new to this forum and new to the car audio world.

I am looking at buying a single Kicker 10" L7. I have an Alpine mrd-m500 mono amp to run it with. What i would like to know is whether to buy the 4 ohm or 2ohm version and how to wire it in order to get the best from my amp.

Cheers

Alex

The MRD-M500  puts out 500 watts RMS X1 @ 2 ohm, So You will want to buy the 4 ohm L7 and wire it in parallel to the amp http://www.audiobahninc.com/tech/wiring/parallel_parallel_dual_4.pdf

The above configuration will present the amp with a 2 ohm load and will provide you with optimal performance.

Don't use the equation on that web site though, for parallel to calculate the resistence it's 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 etc. Other then that it's good.

No, no, no. Get the 2 ohm. You can still wire it 2 ohm for this amp. But in the future u might want to run it 1 ohm. IF u get the 4 ohm u wont be able. The whole point of dual coils is for the many possibilites. You can wire that thing like 2-???? different ways, depending on the amp.

Special-K You cannot wire one Dual 2 ohm sub into 2 ohms. However you can wire (2) 2ohm dvc subs into a 2 ohm load

That's what I was thinking, just making sure Ohm's law didn't change or something.
