HU on when car is off?

I saw this covered before but I can't remember what it said or where I saw it. Sorry for the repeat.I have an Alpine CDA9813 and I want to be able to turn it on if the ingition is off. I took the "12v constant" and "12v switched" leads from the HU and combined the two, then connected to a 12v constant in the fuse block. It works, but will that damage the HU over time.

no it wont really make a difference, might drain your battery if you leave it on though,
