Midbass Options

Hey guy's,

     Still working out my system and have another question. I am looking for a little more midbass responce up front. I was thinking about installing a JL 6.5" Sub in the center counsel pointing to the passenger side and running the low pass filter around 80hz and high pass at 150. Any opinions here. I am currenty running a set of 6.5" components and nothing else.

    Thanks for correcting me there, it's been a tiring day. ANd Yes I had planed on high passing the components at 150 and I run my subs at 80 hertz. I had talked to a guy I have know for years at our local instal shop and he uses 2 JL 6W0's in his truck under the dash and he stated that he wouldn't go any other route.

Yes, I agree that anything above 80Hz should be in stereo.  I have my mid-bass drivers in stereo in kick panels on either side.  I can't say anything about the sound of using JL 6W0 subs in this sort of application since I've never heard them, but if you have heard them set up like this and liked it go for it. 

The Extremis is a great speaker, but IMO it would be a real waste of its potential to limit it to such a narrow band as 80-150Hz since it is a really nice-sounding midrange.  I'd like to try an Extremis as the mid-woofer in a component setup.

Here's a nice sounding low-cost 6.5" woofer designed for car audio that would make a killer  set of mid-bass drivers from 80Hz on up to as high as 2K.  Peerless CSX.

Thanks Dyhon, Those do look like decent speekers. I am just leary of cheaper products as I have have alot of bad experiences with cheaper speakers. But, I will keep those in mind. And, I haven't actually heard the set up with 6W0's. I was looking at heir specs and I felt (after talking to him) that they would do well in the 80-150hz range, running in stereo of coarse.

 If I decide to go that route, I will have to rethink the setup as space up front is a little tight. The systme is in a 94 Lumina euro and my components are already going in the doors and there will be no more space there for anything else.

  I did take the dash top off the other day and discovered quite a bit of room under it, just don't know how I would be able to efficiently use it.

 I pulled the bottom covers off the dash today and discovered a big cramping situation their as well.

 I am trying to design this system around SQ and not SPL so, staging and imaging are going to play a huge factor here.

   If u guy's have anymore suggestions, I am all ears.

Peerless is a very old respected name made by the same Danish comapny as Vifa and Scan-Speak.  I've used them a lot and highly recomend them.  Peerless speakers end up in MANY home and car audio systems under a lot of different brand names. 

While there are cetainly better speakers available, Peerless have excellent quality and great bang-for-the-buck.  I have no vested interest in them, I was trying to find you a good sounding woofer that would be a (probably) better (certainly) cheaper solution than the JL.  If price is not a concern, I use a set of Scan-Speak Revelator 18W's as mid-woofers in my car, for example, which are in a completely different price range at $200+ each.  What is your target price range?
