1989 Chevrolet Cavalier:

Okay, I used a multimeter on the wires according to the wiring diagram. I found the switch 12v+ wire. But there is no constant 12v+ reading for the specified wire or any other wire for that matter.I'm about to go nuts with this problem because the CD player won't keep memory otherwise. Somebody help me here ASAP.

Check the fuse.  It has to be there but will not read 12v if the fuse is blown.

there are no fuses blown.  unless there is another I do not know of. Plus the switched one reads right. If it were the fuse wouldn't nothing work? Could there be another problem with something else?

Nope.  There are 2 different fuses.  One live and one switched.

If you are not getting power at the wire that you are supposed to be getting power at, either a fuse is blown or the wire is cut.

Unfortunately my service manuals don't got back to 89 so I can't tell you which fuse it is.  Look in your owners manual it should say.  Make sure there is power at the fuse as well.  IF there is power on both sides of the fuse and not at the wire, the wire is cut somewhere.

Check the fuse on the constant wire ?? If nothing else run a new wire from a constant source to the deck.

Yup, as Velocity said.....Check the fuse, and double check all the wires in the harness....

If you still don't get a thing..just run a new 12V+ to the deck...

And cause I'm in such a giving mood...here ya go...

It's the white wire in the ignition harness...Remember double check with your DMM....

White wire at the ignition harness????  I would say it would be red.  I doubt there is even a white wire at the ignition harness, except maybe the brake lights going to the turn signal switch.

Trust me..it messed me up, but you did bring up and interesting point...

If you do not see those wires man....

Red for 12V+

Pink  for Ignition

That's usually the standard for Chevy...

Also Player...that's what DEI gave me, I tripled checked it there before I posted...but TY...I should have posted the standard codes we're used to as well..since I could have gotten the few freak cars, and DEI could be wrong...
