Is it possible that my HU (CDA-9830) doesn't like rap music?

Sometimes, volume level doesnt seem to matter, I'll hear a crack/chh noise. It usually occurs with a snare hit. It seems to only happen during a midrange frequency, seems mostly with low freq. lyrics -on a snare hit. Only with rap/techno type music. Some rap songs do it all throughout, some off and on, some not at all! I played a certain song: it played fine halfway thru, after that it started making the noise left and right. I replayed the song from the start -fine, until it got about halfway thru and it started again... With rock or metal it's fine, I can crank it as loud as I want.

Now, I have 18 high-freq. drivers (all tweeters and mid's counted) so I wonder if that's the reason. Gains set fine.

It comes thru the HU's internal amp, but it's wayy louder through the external h/p amp. It seems it does it less with hpf on HU all the way up (160Hz). Can one of you 'big guys' help me out?

Rap is notorious for crap recording quality. If it happens at the same places, no matter where the volume is set, then it is the recording. I'm willing to be that's what it is.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Yeah, I thought so. It's Really bad at times.    I just removed my cap this morning. I really think it helped a little. I need to install my better quality rca's soon, I think that'll help too.    As for the song I mentioned in my first post, it was a Tu-Pac remix (crappy, even though its the orig. cd) and still does it after cap removal.

Is this common?

Will installing better rca's help, even though it comes thru the deck power also?

Will making sure all power, ground, and antennae wires behind stereo are away from all signal wires using loom around them help (they're kinda cluttered)?

Thank haemphyst, you're the man!

jmelton, I think you should start rethinking your system.  Work towards simplicity, minimizing number of drivers.  And as far as that kechink sshh sound, stick with a few quality CD's and test tones while you're troubleshooting.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I have come to conclude that it is from crappy recordings. I don't understand why this is happening. I can play the same exact CD in another player, fine.

So this is common, then? Anyone had similar probs? I just want to make sure my HU isn't going out. Anything?

I forgot to mention, this still happened with the rear speaker amp off (and completely disconnected, amp and wiring out of car) -only HU powering 4x6's in fr doors and tweeters on dash.

That's ridiculous. Where does one even put 18 drivers? Try one pair of components in the front, a pair of co-axles in the back, one or two subwoofers, a 4 channel amp, and a mono amp.

I guess wiring can't be the issue. Here goes, i'll leave the l/p section out for your sake.    I have Alpine tweeters on dash by pillars -off the fr. HU ch's . Cheapo Soundstorm 2way 4x6's in door, factory loc. -off rr. HU ch's. -Decent front stage, I adjusted time corr. in HU to at least make it sound ok for me imaging wise.

Cheapo Jensen 3way 6x9's and Cheapo Lanzar 3way 6.5's (one of each parallel to amp, 2ohm stereo). One of each on each side off 2ch amp. The 6x9's are in fac. rear deck loc. 6.5's are in board across flipped-down rear seat opening. Amp is 125wrms x2 @2ohms (CEA-'06). All gains set correctly. All h/p speakers are getting no bass freq's to them. Good wiring. A little has changed since this pic, mostly cap removal!!

I was counting all the h/p drivers, 18 total.      So, is having a bunch of speakers the cause of my prob? Any other ideas? Thanks for the time, Javin

Sounds like too many tweeters to me in any case.  That kind of system must be very bright and harsh.  This could be causing HF distortion and lobing effects that, when combined with a poor quality recording, punch out the noise you hear from time to time.  It could also be your head unit if the same recording does not make the noise on another HU. Plus, you yourself keep using the word "cheap."  You cannot expect quality sound from sub-standard components, no matter what you do.

DYohn, this is what I was looking for. I keep the treble right over '0', so as to get the most clarity out of 'cheap' speakers. My midbass is okay, I just need to 'polybag' (aznboi3644) my front door speakers. Other than that it sounds good, to me.   I need -less- high quality speakers.

-I noticed the tweeter on the front left 2way 4x6 is not playing, at all. Possible culprit, having 'uneven' speakers? -Javin
