1965 mustang remote start

I have a 1965 Mustang with a carbureted V8 engine. When the car has sat for a few days, obviously you have to touch the gas pedal to help it start, but the car will start no problem with just a flick of the key as long as it is started less than 24 hours. I don't really need remote start, but it would be fun to have since my Marksman M12A supports it. The car does have a T5 manual transmission. I know remote starters should not be installed on manual transmission cars, but this particular transmission has a neutral safety built in. So, unless my shifter lever is centered (in neutral) the car will not start. The problem with this neutral safety switch is that the car sends its +12v to the starter relay when cranking. My alarm uses a negative wire to detect neutral safety. I was thinking of just hardwiring the negative neutral switch, but hooking up the alarm so that it *does* go through the transmissions neutral safety switch. That way, the alarm would try to start, but the cranking voltage would never hit the starter, and I am assuming the alarm would beep back at me saying hey, there was a problem. This should be okay, right?

The problem with that, and correct me if I'm wrong but the neutral safety wire on the alarm requires ground the entire time. That is from when I hit the button on the remote and during the car running. If I use a +12v to negative relay setup, that will only give me ground when the car is cranking which it will never do because the alarm won't sense ground prior to starting... I I y

So here is what I'm thinking. I have two choices... 1) I ground the neutral safety wire on the alarm permanently. The remote start will try to crank, but since the electricity will never hit the starter, the alarm will beep back saying it couldn't start the engine. 2) I make the neutral safety switch on the transmission ground based. It will send ground to the alarm when it's truly in neutral and startable. But, what about my +12v cranking with the key itself, I no longer have a neutral safety switch where I need it most. Well, I could use a relay for that... I could use the same ground coming from the transmission and power the relay using the +12v cranking voltage which would simply pass through to the starter. The problem is, I have a relay that clicks every time I start the vehicle which is more likely to wear out and leave me stranded down the road.

Go with your first choice! Makes alot more sense! And is less tedious!

Just wanted to say thanks guys. I installed the remote start tonight. Works great! I even jacked up the rear wheels and tried to start it in gear with the key, and the alarm, and no go! Now, remote start on a 45 year old car is pretty pointless I'll admit but kind of fun at the same time. :)

Next it's time for the electric door locks. What do you guys think of the SPAL 2 wire units?
