Hi,

I would like to remove the factory alarm from my '91 Ford ranger.  I think I have located the alarm module just under the dash.  To remove the alarm do I just unplug the module and place a jumper or jumpers at the connector to reconnect the ignition and instrument lights?

I was told that the alarm is an after market unit but it plugs into the factory alarm connector.  When the alarm is activated (by trying to start the engine) the instrument panel lights flash, a siren sounds and the ignition is disabled.

Thank you for any help,

Gale

"well if it is an aftermarket alarm if you pull a 12 pin conector from the alarm  everything should go back to normal without touching the wires. why do you want to disconnect it?????  "

I tried just unplugging it but there was no ignition or instrument cluster lights.  I was in a hurry so I didn't take the time to look any further... that was six monthe ago.  Since then I have lost the only working remote access transmitter I had and I can't re-set the alarm if I happen to loose the battery.  That's my worry, if I disconnect the battery to clean the terminals or to replace it I can't disarm the alarm system.

Thank you for your comments,

Gale

Are there any markings on the brain of the alarm module ? Check to see if there is a name or a model number on this module and post your results.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I'll have time Saturday morning to take a closer look and I'll get back here then.  There is a number on the one remaining access transmitters.. would that help?

This is an excellent group!  Thank you for the quick response, I really appreciate it Remove alarm from '91 Ford Ranger -- posted image.

Try to give us as much information as you can, remote control model number, the look of the remote control will help as well ( color of buttons, how many buttons, shape of remote, etc )
