Hi all,
Now I have been installing these things now for a few years and to this date I have never had a car that I couldn't do until today. I had a Chev Cavalier in the shop that gave me all kinds of problems. First some history on it. The car has been into another shop for an autostarter install they gave up. Then it came to me. I didn't want to give up on it but the customer didn't want me to continue since I was having problems. Tech support even couldn't understand it. Here is is Passlock 1 issues. I used a new module from Omega part # DB-PL2002 for the passlock bypass. It appeared to work then it didn't. I could start the car with the key sometimes then couldn't. I tried the autostarter 5 times in a row and it worked then it didn't. Flakey! I checked and rechecked my connections. I found my bulb check wire loose but even connecting it better I still had the same results. The customer just told me to quit on it. That makes me sort of upset since I feel I could have gotten it working if I just did a complete bypass on the passlock system. Now I may never know what the end result may have been. I'm not a big fan of the PL2002 bypass kit. It is supposed to handle passlock 1,2 and VATS. I think it's easier to just use the data buss interface. Omega tech told me that this would work with the passlock 1 system and maybe it does but, I don't think I want to mess with this thing again. They also told me that the data buss interface works with '03 Malibu's and it doesn't. Well it does unless you mind the THEFT light on. Sometimes I think these things aren't really tested that well.

You should try using 2 relays and a resistor (or better yet a trimpot).
Take a look here: Passlock I Temporary Bypass (Diagram #3)
That is if they give you the chance.
I had both of the 99 Cavaliers I did last season give me trouble so I made this relay diagram up and it works beautifully. Its weird, one of them didnt work at all with the key or the starter, and the other just wouldnt work with the starter, so I just said screw it and never even tried to do a passlock I again with a bypass module. At first I just said this for Cavaliers, but all Passlock I's I do get this relay diagram setup now.

hi the pl2002 and 2003 need to be relay or diode isolated from the starter or it does funky things like you described if i remeber correctly for the relay method cut starter wire in half pin 30 to key side pin 87 to starter side pin 85 to starter wire key side pin 85 to ground i can't remeber which side the rs wire and bypass wire go on but the pl 2003 should come with the diagram or call your suppliers tech support this should solve your problem.
good luck

ya,,the passlock 1 system seems to get interferance from the starter wire,,so you need to put a relay in line of the starter wire and it works fine for me everytime with the pl2002a

a cavalier should be pretty simple.  i use dei 555L's and have never had a problem.  have you verified its a passlock problem?  how is the engine handling cranking?
