I recently installed a Compustar remote start into a customer's vehicle and am having a couple of issues with it.

First off, the customer claims that sometimes the vehicle remotely starts no problem, and other times you can try to remotely start it until you are blue in the face (the customer claims he has tried 5 times in a row, at three cycles a try, 15 times).  He claims the ignition turns on and the vehicle tries to crank (through the sound of the fuel pump during the crank cycle), but doesn't start.

I had the car all weekend, and it would try to start on one cycle, pause, then on the second cycle would always start.  I have to believe the customer, but am running out of ideas.

I have tested the outputs from the Compustar during this first "try" but no start, and they work...The DEI 55b I am using works every time as well, so I know it's not the factory immobilizer...I verified this also by disconnecting it and placing the key near the ignition...The compustar's output to the relay that connects to my SMG module brake sense wire to put the car in neutral works 0.5 sec after ignition and stays on as planned during the whole running cycle...Any ideas???

Also, the DEi 2nd ignition wire, seems to be the normal BMW radio accessory wire, as per all previous BMW's i've done, so it is not connected during the remote start cycle.  At first, when I installed the compustar, I had it hooked up as a second ignition, but it seemed to trigger the cruise control and transmission warning lights in the dash, so I disconnected it...Is there a wire that needs to be triggered before the start cycle, other than the factory alarm disable, to turn on a module in the car like the old firebirds and camaros?

Also, it seems that the cruise control light on the dash is always on during the remote start, regardless of second ignition.  Other than, that, everything works fine...Windows up with arming, roof up, roof down, roof and windows up, down, stereo on with sensor by-pass, etc.  ( I have about 18 relays, two PAC TR-7 modules, one pulse timer, one DEI tilt/motion sensonr, One DEI dual zone prox,  diodes galore, etc. and a channel expander in order to make this all happen)  I also have pictures of the install available if anyone is curious how all this fits.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, including vehicle wiring diagrams...I only had access to my multimeter, knowledge and experince of previous BMW installs, and a DEI Directwire for 2003 BMW 3 series wiring diagram.  I don't know if Code-alarm, DEI, astrostart, etc would have any specific knowledge about the SMG models.

My local BMW dealers' head electrical techs told me that it is impossible for the SMG to remote start period.  So any help from the  local dealers is out.  The car seems to work fine for me, as it did all weekend, regardless of time between starts, etc. Yet my customer has been calling me every day saying it does the same thing where it won't consistently start every time.

Thanks in advance...

Pete
