I was wondering if anyone installs the smart start interlock units and if so what color is the  tach wire input if there is one. Thank you

You don't need a tach signal for these types of devices....

I would think you would need one so that the unit knows that the car is running, rather then going by a type of voltage sensing system that I think could not work 100%

They work perfectly...."trust me"   I have installed them, and am currently "borrowing" one....wink, wink.

The first blow enables the car to start, triggering an internal electronic relay for the broken starter wire. The second blow (or 3rd,4th,and 5th) is recorded on the unit for download at a later date.

It's NOT a set pattern......You must do what it asks. If you feel it's malfunctioning....take to the folks that put it in....better than gettin in trouble...agreed?
