here's the senario - would appreciate any expertise/advice:   I have a portable device (cassette recorder) that i constantly use while driving - problem is the batteries don't  last long enough.  I would like to connect it to a switched source via a dc-dc converter (12v to 3v @700mA).  Easy enough if I wanted to buy a cigarette-lighter converter with appropriate adapter - BUT, I don't want it to be plugged into the lighter.  My thought was to buy yet another adapter (female lighter recptacle) in which its wires(??) could be attached to ground with the hot side going to a switched fuse in the panel (possibly, the lighter fuse?).

Polarity concerns?  Overloading concerns?  Anything I'm not seeing?  Better ideas?! - please let me know, I appreciate your help.

i agree, as for polarity, plug it in and test the wires with your meter or test light and then mark them. your cig lighter can handle it with no problems. if your lighter is hot with the key off just make sure you don't forget to turn the switch off.
