Opinions and help please! Mobile Video Install 02 Odyssey -- posted image.

Ive narrowed my selection to the Eclipse AV8022 and the Sony XAV-7W.  Unless you know of another good option?

Eclipse has the integrated screen & DVD/CD/MP3 player on board!  Saves space.  But you cant play music and watch PS2/DVD simultaneously.   Also has an 8volt preout! and DVD controls on the face of the unit.

Sony has the 7" integrated screen and claims to play music while watching video.  The Sony unit is a controller only for dvd/cdr/mp3, must take up space with an additional unit(s) to play DVD/CD/MP3.    DVD control is by remote only, although XM ready.  Only lists one set of video outputs.

1.  How do you hook-up two additional monitors without degrading signal from one set of outputs?  (Ive seen this posted, but I cant find it.)

2.  How do you get the Eclipse to play music and watch video simultaneously?  Is there a switch you could add on possible for an additional player?  Is this practical?

I found a switcher from Pioneer.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/CarProducts/CarProductDetails/0,1429,512,00.html

But this is for video and still wont allow dual zone audio will it?

Im seeing non-display DVD head units which are dual zone but not DVD w/display.

Anyone got any ideas?

  • Use of a switcher is needed for this. You can get most switchers with 4 A/V outputs for about $ 150

  • Most units only allow you to switch between sources if the player is internal. What I mean is if you want to add on DVD, VCR, PS2, etc, you can control the output video and audio with a switch box and then you can have the CD play through the speaker's while the movie is playing on an external DVD, PS2 or VCR . Some units may allow you to switch audio inputs while playing the medium that you choose on your screen, but you will need to contact the manufacturer for this information on their websites.

BTW: Your never talking to yourself when your on this forum..... sometimes it take a little longer for people to post , that's all

Thanks (again) Jeff.

At first I thought I offended the almighty 12volt somehow...then I thought maybe no one was interested in such ?elementary? inquiries.

Thanks for your help.  A little more research and I found the same.  Mobile Video Install 02 Odyssey -- posted image.

No shot at all.  I think this is the most useful forum on the net!

Glad you guys are here!!!

Im going with the Sony AVX-7W in-dash 7" LCD controller (no player) xm-ready, mp3 ready.  Now I have to decide if I will do the Vizualogic 7" LCD Custom Headrests or just do a 10" slimline flipdown which I think would be better than two smaller headrests and more visible to the 3rd row.  I will go with the optiview DVD/CD-R/MP3 DIN player and mount it in the drink holder/coin tray in the dash console, molding a cover to look like the drink tray (flush mounting the remote eye in same).  The Sony/Optiview will allow me to have dual zone with out the electronic switcher.  Switcher could add-on later if I want to get fancy with DVD and PS2 simultaneously on different screens.  Gonna go with the wireless headphones for DVD/PS2 use.

Getting a 7band Zapco eq and balanced line receiver for 8 volts to my amps - regardless of whether I upgrade to the Zapco Reference series amps.  Mounting the eq in the din-sized tray underneath the headunit because it  has a potentiometer for volume control!  Wireless remotes are great, but nothing like not having to think about how to turn the volume down while your negotiating traffic on I-5 with music blaring and 3 kids driving you nuts.  Also, its my wifes ride and she's not as fond of bass as I am.  She needs an easy way to reduce bass sound without having to freak with the Sony head unit which has no knobs.
