whats the general idea when your looking for subs when it comes to size? besides space restrictions and cost, why would you choose one over the other?

when it comes to subs if you don't have any restrictions I basically look for the type of sound that I like.

ok well between the 10" and 12" is a 2" difference and the 10" and 15" is a 5" difference... you get the point. 10s 12s or 15s -- posted image.  Actuall it's loud, loud and loud.  They can all be the same or it can be as different as night and day.  It all depends upon the type of sub you get, what kind of enclusure you have it in and how much power is running to it (there are actually counteless number of other factors but i'm not mentioning them all).  And these combinations are endless, no joke.  You just have to listen to them yourself.  For a "loud" sub a Kicker Solo L7 15" in a ported box is "loud".  But so is a JL 10w7 in a sealed box.  Limit down you're brand and style (square or round), size, and what kind of box you want or can handle.  You'll get more feedback on that.

...Wow.  That's a loaded question if I've ever heard one.  But then again, one of the most common ones, too.  I hope I can help you out.

Read my post about choosing the right subwoofer.  It's called "Beginner's guide to Subs and Boxes".  Should be a couple posts up.  Let me know.

Just a quick sidenote a properly powered 10" in the correct size enclosure will outperform a hastily mounted 15" anyday. Take stock of how much airspace you have available and work from that. Don't skimp on box size.
