I'm having difficulty in installing a remote starter in a Ford Windstar LX 1999. Perhaps you have the solution(s) to my problem(s). If not, please provide me an opinion about the fact that the problem may be related with the particular brand of Remote Starter I intend to use (if I'd buy a different one, would my problem be solved? and Why?)

Two problems: Connecting a Yellow wire and finding the FASD wire.

I am trying to install a Bulldog Security RS1200E.

I noticed the wiring diagram shown on this web site shows a black wire (ignition 2). I don't have that wire, but I do have a Yellow wire (that cause my a problem).

I made the connection as follows:

From ignition harness White to RS1200 Ign 1 From ignition harness PURPLE / White to RS1200 Ign 2 From ignition harness BLACK/ Green to RS1200 Accessory From ignition harness Green to RS1200 Start

There are four wires with constant 12V on the ignition harness; two red and two heavier gauge GREEN/ purple. I connected the two GREEN/ purple to the two RS1200 12V input wires (independent).

I also installed a PATS bypass module and it works fine.

Now's the problem. The car starts, the RS1200 operates fine, BUT, the rear blower in my car (I have the two air conditioning system) blows like hell even though it is switched off. And some of the lights in the instruments panel remain on (ABS brakes, Track Off). Oh. The odometer shows "------".

Doing manual connections instead of through the RS1200, I found that the Yellow wire from the ignition harness controls that problem and needs to be connected (everything works perfectly if I connect the wires manually).

When I connect the yellow and try to start with the RS1200, it does not work (it shuts down as soon as the Yellow wire is connected to any 12V source around (i tried the four 12V+ on the ignition harness + some more around).

Do you know what's going on? I think there must be a mechanism in the RS1200E that detects when we turn the key to ON and somehow, connecting this Yellow wire does the same thing.

OK... that was problem #1.

My second problem is that I cannot find a Factory Alarm System Disarm wire that temporarily disarm the alarm when pulled to ground. I was told to look for a LT Blue/Black wire either under the kick panel or on the FEM module. I have a factory alarm system in my car and I need to connect that wire if I want to use the door unlock feature of my RS1200 system without activating the alarm when I open the door. Would you know anything about this wire? Where is it? How do I access it?

If any of you can help me with any of these issues, you'll make my day a better one!

First, I would like to thank Jeff who gave a shot at responding to my request (offline).

I found a wiring diagram that reflected my ignition harness very well (WireMagic).  It says that I have three accessory wires: PURPLE / Orange, BLACK/ Green and Yellow). I  tried separating the accessory wires with relays but it did not resolve my problem.

I then got a hint from one of the wiring diagrams that there might be a problem of compatibility with the brake pedal wire and some Remote Starter when the Yellow accessory wire is also connected.   I disconnected it... and it worked!  I then installed a relay to isolate the brake output from my remote starter.  It now works perfectly and I'm much happier!     If this can help to some of you... then good!

I still have a problem.  The wire diagram says that my FASD wire is a blue/black wire on a 26 pin connector on the FEM.  I found such a wire, but it is normally ground and it disconnects when I turn the key to either lock or unlock in the driver side door key lock.  Can that be THE wire?  Have you seen situations where the FASD works like that?  If so, I'll cut the wire and install a relay...

Finally, there seems to be an Arm wire that is GREEN/ black on the 20 pin connector of the FASD.  Anybody used that one?

The wire should be light blue/black.  The wire should disarm the alarm when you ground it.  It should be ground when the lock cylinder in the door is turned to unlock.

Yes, it is!   Everything works now!  The key lock on the

driver side was changed a few years ago.  The one who
put it back in place did not properly installed the
reed switch assembly.  As a result, the circuit was
closed (shows ground) when unlock and would open on
either side.
I corrected that and the wire I first found last week
proved right away to be the good one.
I also installed a relay to arm the alarm system.  This is
the GREEN/ black wire that is normally ground and we
need to open the circuit to arm the system at the same
time we lock the door (in fact, it simulates driver
door open).  This works well also.
Thanks!
