Hi,

I have a 1991 Buick Century with a power window issue.

The problem

I can not get the windows to operate with the drivers side master console. Each window, except the driver side, works individually from its own switch.

What I have done:

The driver side window stopped working.  I replaced the motor with a NAPA autoparts aftermarket motor and followed the instructions for replacing it.   After mounting the new motor to the track assembly, I tested with direct power from the battery using  aligator clips and 10 gauge wire jumper cables.  The motor worked and the track went up and down depending on the hot wire and ground wire placement on the motor connections.

I remounted the track and motor in the door, secured it bolts and  self locking nuts.

Reconnected the wiring and tried it using the drivers side master console, It failed to operate.

The old master switch console failed to work, I replaced it with a few junk yard replacements.  This did not resolve the problem.

I finally coughed up the $105.00 and bought a factory replacement switch from GM.

I installed this and the windows still failed to operate using the master switch, but each individual window, except the drivers, work.  Yes the ignition was on, car was started.

I disconnected the plug for the windows, none of the windows operattes.  The door locks are fine.  Reconnecting the plug to the switch and with igntion switch to on the other three windows worked off their switches.

I tested the motor for the driver side window again, I bared the brown and blue wires and used the cables directly off the battery supplying power to one side and ground to the other and was able to get the window to go up and down, depending on which wire was grounded and which was hot.

I replaced the circuit breakers thinking they could be weak or not functioning correctly, this did not help.

i bought a test light and connected it to the positvie side of the battery and then inserted the tip into each receptacle on the plug. The light glowed for all but two wires.  I checked these 2 wires by connecting the test light to the negaive battery post and the light lit on one of the two wires.

The wires are small gauged and i am surprised that they provide power.

What I need

I don't know what the next step for troubleshooting is.

I don't understand how each individual switch can operate the windows but the master console switch doesn't.

I bought the wiring diagram for the buick but it only shows the wiring colors and no schematic for the operation of the windows.
