has anyone worked with either? is it the same as working with fiberglass mat ?

Do you just use fiberglass resin over the carbon fiber or kevlar materal?

It's almost the same.. you have your mat and you have a resin and catylst.. thats where it stops. you have to use a clear epoxy resin and epoxy hardner.. fiberglass resin is a polyester resin.. if you are making a carbon fiber peice, lay out the mat (I use a waxed piece of glass) and pour the resin over it.. to get the air bubbles out, breath over the piece.. something with the CO2.. don't ask me how, it just works.. then just cut out what you need... lamanet bit on router.. whatever..
also, if you want the rounded edges on the material, cut mat out to shape and lay the piece of small blocks of wood making sure that no wood is touching the edges (you want it to drip off the project, not run down the sides) pour resin over the mat and just let it runn off.. breath on it to get out bubbles and let dry.. this will give you the rolled edges...
this is for only flat pieces of mat.. I haven't figured out how to do the pieces that curve yet...

Table top resin will work just fine. The key to curved edges is to baby-sit the resin as it drys. You will be able to continue to scoop up the resin and pour it back on the part.It is a little time consuming, but the results are fantastic and less wastefull.Another thing I do is coat the part enough to be sanded with 1500 grit wet/dry sand paper, and then spray a thick layer of automotive eurothane clear coat over the part. Then it is protected and easier to polish if need be.Good Luck.
