i have a 2005 cadillac cts with non bose system. this system just isn't loud enough for me. i would like to install an additional amp and speakers, not necessarily a subwoofer (i'm a rocker, not a rapper) though this is not out of the question. i have eight speakers from my dodge caravan's infinity system (which sounded much better than what's in my cts) at my disposal. i would be happy simply mounting these speakers in the trunk and aiming them through the armrest trunk passthrough. can i add another amp for these speakers in a manner such that the volume control up front will operate them? the system in the van is 200 watts. what would i need to buy, and how would i hook everything up? where do i tap in for the input on the new amp? where do i get power from for the new amp? do i wire the speakers in series? i am familiar with the location of the existing amp and fuse boxes. please help. i need a lot.

Firing the new speakers through the armrest hole in the back seat will defeat the purpose of the stereo signal broadcast over the radio stations and on your CDs.  Stereo = 2 separate channels so you can imagine the stage in front of you with the guitar on the left, piano on the right and drums in the middle.

Yes you can add an amp and have the radio control the volume of the speakers connected to the amp.  This will require a Line Out Converter.  This device sells for around 20 dollars.  If you are using a 4 channel amplifier, you will need 2 of these devices.  Pac-Audio.com  A Pac SNI-15 will be a good unit to check out.

You will need to connect the Line Out Converters to the speaker wires that power your speakers now.  This is done either behind the radio if there is no factory amplifier in the system.  If there is a factory amp, chances are it will be mounted in the trunk area.  We can let you know if you have one and where it is if you are going to attempt the install.   I just noticed that you already know where the amp is.

The power wire for the amp needs to be run to the battery.  A fuse must be placed as near the battery as possible.  The size of your amp will determine how large of a wire you need to run to the battery.

Yea, I know what stereo is, but I'm not about to butcher this car in any way. Aiming additional speakers through the trunk passthrough would be good enough for me (okay maybe I'll add a left and a right under the dash--I don't know.....but whatever I do I would make sure it sounded good). I'm just not sure about the hook up. I would prefer to tap into the speaker wires after (beyond) the factory amp for my input but wasn't sure if I could seeings to how it has already been amplified. This is the correct method? And what about wiring the speakers in series? Thanks for your help.

You can tap into the wires after the amp.  Do you have any idea of the impedance of the caravan speakers?  The only reason you would want to run the speakers in series, is if they are 1 Ohm drivers and your amp will go no lower than 2 Ohms per channel.
