i am starting on my first fiberglass project making a custom center console/ sub box in my 94 s10 blazer. i have 2 questions concerning this.- i want to place my head unit on the slanted part of my console. can i just extend the wires that go to the adapter plug that plugs into the head unit? -i also want to run 12 guage wire to all of my speakers so is there a way to take the existing speaker wires that attach in the plug out, and attach the 12 gauge or would splicing the wires work. the only concern i had was since the existing wire is so much smaller would it even be worth it to splice.

any advice would help, thanx

You can buy original harnesses going into the car... meaning you could cut the old harness off and splice the wires into the new harness (always always solder and tape.) which would be an extention of maybe 4 inches. Or you could just match the AWG (I think they are all 16 AWG) wire and cut your own extentions. Just clip behind the harness and solder your extentions in on both ends. Why in the world would you want 12 AWG wire to your front speakers? You're not doing yourself any good upping the size of the wire coming out of a harness, the only reason you would need 12 awg wire is if you were pumping 200+ watts out of it(which is not going to happen from a CD player.) You are fine with the standard wire in the harness. If you want higher AWG wire, you rewire your speakers into an amp, and just run RCAs and remote on/off from the CD player to the amp. Just remember to correctly solder all splices, and use proper connectors and rubber covers.

also.... i was originally planning on setting my sub into the fiberglass console in the front. i read about an install that had the sub up front and had a very good sound (like a home theater setup), has anyone tried this or should i just set up a 'floating' system to see where it will sound the best?
