I want to use 6.5's and seperate tweeters in my doors.  They're both rated at 4 ohms.  Now if i run them series (giving me 8 ohms), would there be any problems using my HU to power them?  The HU is a Sony CDX-MP80, tweets are no name brand (well Nippon), the 6.5's are Infinity Reference 652i.  I know it would probably be better using a crossover.  But since my HU has a built-in Hpf with two cut-off frequencys, I'd rather go this route.  Also I don't have much room for a crossover in my doors.

You really need a crossover.  Otherwise you will be sending low frequency information to those tweeters and they will not last very long.  You need a two-way passive crossover.  Sorry.

As I mentioned my HU has a HPF built-in.

So you'll be using the 6.5's as tweeters?  If you set the HPF high enough for the tweeters, then you won't get any benefit from 6.5's in the doors since both speakers will get the same signal.

Ok the cutoff frequency for the HPF is 125 Hz.  So basically the tweets and mids will be getting midrange to high-range frequency.  Or is the 125Hz cutoff not high enough for the tweeters?

125 hz is way too low (really really low) for a tweeter, unless you run a seperate crossover for the tweeters at around 3000 Hz to 3500 Hz probobly, and the coaxials full range (which im guessing you are doing). Why do you feel like you need an extra set of tweeters for? If you need more highs spend your money on a good component set or a better set of tweeters.

125Hz will blow yiour tweeters.  Most standard car audio tweeters require more like 2500 to 3500 cutoff at least 12 db/octave slpoe.  You need an external crossover.

OK, you still need a crossover.

As I said in another post, Just use caps on the speakers and the problems fixed. Put caps on the tweets to cross them over and IF the 6.5's are strictly mids with no tweeter on them then put a coil on them and you have an instant set of components. Just make sure that if you crossover the tweets at, say, 2500 hz then coil the mids at 2500 hz as well or else you will miss frequencies.
