may seem stupid but here goes.

i hook the power wire to the positive terminal on the battery, then connect to the amp.

from the amp, i run a ground wire to an appropriate spot on the car.

Do i need to run a wire from the Negative battery terminal to a point on the frame, or somewhere in the engine bay?  or will the ground wire from the amp be enough.

i ask because i havent messed with stereos in about 7 years & the last time i did, my car kept dying until i grounded the battery, but everything im reading lately doesnt mention it.

Upgrading the ground under the hood wont hurt you...It will only help...

Most of the time just grounding the amp to the car will be sufficient enough but grounding the battery to the car better wouldnt hurt, although its not necesary
