I moved my cd player from one car to another and since I did I've been noticing that after playing for about 30 minutes I get some distortion in the sound or the volume will drop suddenly. ???   It had never happened before I moved the stereo. Also... is it normal for the heatsink(I assume that's what it is, sure looks like it) on the back if the cd player to get too hot to touch? Just wondering if maybe that's part of my problem. What could I have done wrong to cause it to do that?

Sounds like it is overheating.  You could have hooked something up wrong or it could simply be coincidence.  You could also have a speaker that is shorting out or shorting to ground.

Is your CD player grounded well? Are you just using a ground strap, or a wire running from the cd player and secured to the chassis of the vehicle?
