Active Crossover Suggestions?

OK, my buddy is amassing his audio gear... He has an Eclipse 8455, a pair of Eclipse PA5422s, 4 Morel MW-164's, and a pair of Morel tweeters - (model unknown to me), and an Adire Koda10. All we need now is a crossover. I know the amps have crossovers built in, but the flexibility is not there like we are looking for... He is willing to spend up to about 300 dollars, but 800 bucks for the Altos, like I have, is right out of the question... Here are what we have located: 1: The Coustic XM-6 2: The AudioControl 6XS 3: The Clif Designs CDQ3X 4: The Kenwood KEC-600 (No longer available) 5: The AltoMobile Drive30 Ideally, a one box solution is best, and if we HAVE to, the rears can run 80 and up, rolling off naturally, but if I can find a crossover to do "Front hi-pass and mid pass", "Rear hi-pass and mid-pass", "Sub low pass", with front rear and sub inputs, this would work best. So far, I like the kenwood piece the best, seems to be the best overall... flexible crossover points with potentiometers is good... Anybody have any experience with any of the above mentioned items? I will forward any and all input to him, so he can make a FAR more informed decision...It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I'm a big fan of the AC 6XS.  I also love the JBL GT45Z, but those are hard to find since they were discontinued.  I don't know anything about the Kenwood.  I am NOT a fan of the Cliff or of modern Coustic gear.  Noisy and unreliable.  The PPI FR-456 is very nice.  A couple steps up (and into your Alto range) includes the USD SW-3X and, of course, Zapco...Support the12volt.com

I like the 6XS as well, but I was kinda hoping for a little better flexiblity. Pots are nice, 'cause they allow effectively infinite crossover points, and resistor modules... not so much. LOVE that Zapco piece... EXACTLY what the doctor ordered... What's the pricetag on that little beauty? If it's as nice as it looks (and it *IS* Zapco, after all) I bet he'd spring for it... Might be able to get him to the 400 dollar or so range - think it'd fit? I wonder if my sources in Northridge could lay hands on a GT45Z (sez dave, thinking outloud) But no Clif... The Zapco SLX-4  is extremely nice and very flexible.  A quick search shows it can be had for $400, and I bet a more thorough search would find better deals out there.   The GT45Z is what I use.  It is very nice, clean, and includes a built-in LOC (if you need that) and a nifty DSP soundfiled generator that can simulate a virtual centr channel (if you want that.)Support the12volt.com
