This past weekend, I completely gutted my trunk and brushed on some rubber-based bedliner stuff, I used a whole gallon on just the trunk, probably 1/8" - 1/4" thick everywhere I could get. I also re-routed my rca cables that went to my DSP and mounted my DSP away from my amps. I am happy to say I got rid of ALL my alt. whine and engine noise, and my bass response has much improved, along with ALOT less rattling...
So now I am ready to move on to the front stage. Currently, I have 6.5" Alpine coax's in the front doors in the stock location - bottom-front of the door panels. I also have the stock tweets hooked up, and they are flush mounted, about 2-3" lower than the top of the dash at the front side of the door panels ~2-3" back from the dash. By the way, this is in a 1997(4th gen) Nissan Maxima...
So, I have been thinking about getting/making some kick panels, and I've been reading alot about imaging/timing and all that, and I am thinking about doing 6.5" components in the doors for bass, 4" or 5.25" mids in the kicks, and some flush-mount 1" dome tweets in the stock location, flush mounted.
But I have been wondering; Alot of guys are putting the tweets in the a pillars, and 95-96 Maximas had stock tweets up there, so I am wondering if it would be better to get some a pillar pods from one of those cars and put the tweets there, or is where they are now better? I know this will all be a matter of opinion and I should do what sounds best to me, but I am talking about potentially, which would be a worse spot as far as reflection/imaging is cocerned? I already have a DCX-730 that I will be using for processing, and it has time alignment and all that I can play with, but I want to start off with the best physical placement I can, and only EQ what I have to.
Currently I have nothing for rear-fill, and for subs in the trunk I have 2 - Earthquake DBX-12's in a ported box I designed in WinSD, tuned to 32hz - pushed for now by a 1600w mono amp. The front stage is pushed by a 300rms x 2 ch @2 ohm, 150w rms x2 @ 4ohm 2ch amp. I was running it at 4 ohms and it had no problem powering the fronts, but the Alpines are sheap, they suck, and I want something better.
Sorry about the length of this, I just am really ready to get my system out of the "high-school" stage and move onto something better, and I want to get some opinions and do as much research as I can before I spend money. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. If I need to add more info or anything, please let me know.
Thanks,
-Matt
