Is it possible to install the Viper 620v Electro-Luminescent Indicator without having the viper or an alarm (direct to battery installation)?

would you recommend that, or just a blinking LED if cost is not an issue?
and how would it turn off once the car starts, or would it have to be connected to a switch?

You would use the main ignition wire in the car as a ground for the l.e.d. When the car is OFF, the l.e.d. flashes. When it is ON, it does not flash because the l.e.d. does not have a ground path.

so would this work: cut off the adapter on the 620v, left with 2 wires. cut the main ignition wire. connect the 2 wires of the 620v to the 2 newly created ends of the main ignition wire. done. ??

no u don't cut the adapter of, you connect it as is, red to 12 volts and the black to the ignition wire, it will work, the reason i didn't advise u of the method is because, it significantly shortens life span of the led, since the ground wire of the led would have current flowing through most of the time, and i would still say go with the switch, but that's just my thoughts.

ok, great. thanks. im no electrician, so I don't understand how you can connect 1 wire to a completed circuit already (aka as you said red to 12 volts for example), but it will be installed by my ravelco installer. The only thing is is that with a switch or button, I would have to hit it every time I leave/enter the car - forgetting and getting lazy. How much is "significantly shortening the life"? And I'm guessing it wouldn't be easy to replace the LED considering I wouldn't know how to install it in the first place?

what do you mean connecting one wire to a completed circuit, the 620 led has two wires a red and black, the adaptor is connected before these wires, umm as regards to the shortening of the life span of the led, let's put it like this, i did it like that for a customer before by request aginst my advice, he came back within six days or so with the led blown, installed a new one the proper way and he hasn't come back since. it's possible the led itself could have been faulty but i guess we'll never know.

switch it is, unless anyone else doesn't think the other way will shorten the life of the LED.
now im debating on the Viper LED or just a blinking light LED....hmmm....suggestions?
