xk01, 561t , 2005 grand prix

I purchased a DEI 561t add-on remote start module with the intention of installing it in my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Problem #1... transponder needs to be bypassed. I picked up a DEI XK01 to bypass the transponder. Problem #2... it appears the XK01 needs GMDL5X firmware and the XK01 has AMDL firmware instead. I am able to download GMDL5X from xpressdownload.com. Question #1... how to I get it into the XK01? Question #2... will the XK01 work to bypass the transponder in the 2005 Grand Prix so the 561t can remote start the car?

the xk01 will work in a grand prix with the gmdl5x software but to get the software you need to download it on to the module, using express loader software and cable

Where would one acquire a programming cable? 'm guessing that programming is done through the 4-pin on the XK01... can I just cut up a USB cable and attach the wires to the pins? Or is there more to it than that?

mine is a usb cable to a box, then the 4pin cable from the box to the module

1. I've never had good luck with a bypass module on those cars. I've always just used an aftermarket transponder key (about $10-15) and a universal bypass box. 2. On www.xpressdownload.com somewhere there it should show their product the XKLoader. One end plugs into the USB on your computer, the other into the 4-pin on the XK01. You also need to install some software from them into your computer. The XKLoader isn't just a cable adaptor; there's a small box with a circuit board with 20 components on it. I don't think you'll be able to rig up your own. I think it's like a $40-ish item. 3. You could call around some of your local shops, see who carries the Trilogix line of bypasses, and see what they'd charge you to program the XK01 for you. Might be less expensive than buying the XKLoader for yourself.
