Hi,

Installing a Avital  4113L RS in a 2003 Toyota Camry 4 cyl. I have 2 issues:

1. I tried changing some of the features according to the install info. Turn key on/off, within 10 seconds press program/valet button a number of times for feature (example #5 (unlock output) 5 times + 1 while still holding the program button. While still holding the button down, the LED is supposed to flash 5 times to indicate feature #5. Mine flashes/chirps w/horn quickly 2 times, then one more that is longer. I tried several different features, with the exact same result. I'm not sure if I'm locked out of being able to program it, or is there something else I need to do like keep the drivers door open while programming. The manual is not very clear.  Also, the manual shows theres a Menu 1 and Menu 2 for features. Being a 1 button remote, how would I choose between them?

2. This Camry has the VIP keyless entry, security, trunk and panic button fob. As long as the alarm is not set, the RS starts just fine. I'd like to keep the VIP functionality (alarm)along with this simple  RS. When armed, The alarm goes off when the RS starts the engine. Is using the Keysense signal the best way to temporarily disarm it, or is there a better way?

Thanks,

Hapuna

For issue 1:

After looking over the Avitall 4113 install manual, I believe that there is a step missing as to how to gain access to Menu 1 and Menu 2.  This looks very similar to the Viper 571xv. Go to the downloads section of this site, download the Installation manual for the 571 and on page 30 is an explaination of getting to each menu, and each feature of those menus. It's worth a try to see if it works.

I had a 571 in one of my cars, and it takes a bit of  choreographed  button pushing avital 4113 rs issues -- posted image.  to get to the menu/feature you want, so don't get frustrated if it take a few tries for each item.  Since I have done several of my own vehicles and all of my kids, I picked up a Bitwriter.

Issue 2:    Not sure on this one. Maybe a Toyota person can pick up on it.  My GUESS would be the H1/1 Factory Alarm Disarm wire to the Keysense wire. Try doing a search from the search box on that and see what comes up.

When all else fails, Read the Instructions

1. You're missing the first step of the programming.
Key on, key off.
Press and HOLD programming button.
Wait for the LED on the brain to flash once (you'll be in Menu 1), or wait even longer for it to flash twice (you'll be in Menu 2).
Press and release the button the number of times to equal the feature setting you want. (For example, 5 times to get to Feature 5.)
Don't release the programming button yet.
Press the button on the remote to change the setting to where you want it.
Release the programming button.
Wait 15 seconds to automatically exit programming, or cycle the key on and off again.
2. Toyota remotes don't work with the car running.
Yes, use keysense to disarm the factory alarm during remote start.
You'll want to at least connect the 4111's blue unlock wire to the car's blue unlock wire in the kick panel, or get the remotes for a 4113, program those to the unit, and connect lock, unlock, and trunk.
As far as the VIP alarm, can you control it by locking and unlocking the car's doors from the outside with the key? If so, then the 4113 remotes will control the alarm too.

Thank you both for yout help!  The programming instructions from Avital are definatly incorrect. With your help, I can now change the features!

I beleive someone stated I should connect the keysense to the blue status output, as it is constant pull to ground vs a pulsed output.

And yes, if the VIP is armed, I can disarm it using the key in the drivers door. Since the VIP doesn't work with the engine running, I'll have to live with at least one door unlocked when the RS is initiated, or use the 4113 to open the door. Since its a single button remote, it has limited capabilities.

Thanks,

Hapuna

Connect the status output to the blue(-) keysense wire. Connect the blue (-) unlock output to the blue (- double pulse) unlock wire in the car.

End result: Lock the car w/ factory fob, remote starts w/out setting off the factory alarm, unlock the car with the 4113 remote, get in and drive away. No doors unlocked while remote started. No risk of attempted theft. Everyones happy!

Thanks Again!

Looks like I have options. From Chris' post, I'm assuming the 4113 (single button remote that I have) and the 4103 (4 button remote) use the same "brain", just different remotes?

If so, I can do as blanx218 says and use the factory and 4113 remotes,  or according to Chis, if I can get ahold of some 4103 (4 button) remotes, I could program the "brain" to handle all the functions of the VIP alarm system, thus eliminating the factory FOB.

or

I could just totally disable the VIP and not have an alarm, but if I use a 4103 remote, still retain all other keyless functionality? Do I have this right?

Guess my biggest question is if the "brains" are the same?

Thanks,

Hapuna

the brains are the same. looking a little further you could use the 4103. on your vehicle the security arms w/lock and disarms w/unlock. you would still need to connect the status output to the keysense for disarm on r/s
