Hello, I'm going to be install an Ultra Start 1272 in my friends Elantra.
My first question is, the car shows having a Neg parking light and also a Positve parking light. The Ultra start has a switch to use Neg or Positive. Is it as easy as connecting to the NEgative wire and switching the Ultra start to the Negative setting?
It says the BCM is behind the AC controls. Is it difficult to take the dash apart? I'm assuming they mean it's in the center behind the radio kind of right?
The car is showing as having two Accessory wires. Do I put the second accessory wire to the Selectable output on the Ultra start? Or is it even necessary to hook on to the 2nd Accessory wire?
Also, how do you guys like to make the connections? Do you use quick splices or just shave back the plastic jacket and twist the new wire onto the existing wire?
Thanks a lot.

It is just a jumper in the brain that needs to be moved for (-) Parking Lights on the 1272.

The thick White wire is programmable to ACC2 ( default is IGN2 ) for your cars second accessory wire.

You can get at the horn, door locks, trunk release,  parking lights, brake, alarm disarm without going to the BCM.  The Tach is in the Passenger Kick panel or any un-common fuel injector wire.

Soldering is fun!

Yes.  Usually I get the negative at the light switch on the steering column;  This does not allow the lights to flash when the auto off  function shuts the lights off.   I usually get the lights as Positive at the dimmer switch (Pink wire, I believe)--this allows the parking lights to be lit anytime..

It says the BCM is behind the AC controls. Is it difficult to take the dash apart? I'm assuming they mean it's in the center behind the radio kind of right?

The BCM is behind the compartment below the AC Controls.  A couple of screws need to be removed, and the compartment assembly pulls out fairly easily.   Not sure what you need at the BCM, but I usually only get the defrost siganl there---everything else you can get elsewhere with much easier access.

The car is showing as having two Accessory wires. Do I put the second accessory wire to the Selectable output on the Ultra start? Or is it even necessary to hook on to the 2nd Accessory wire?

Yes, set the Ultrastart to output accessory  and connect to the second accessory wire....As I recall, the function is actually  a second ignition--Test the listed accessory wires wth a DVM to see which wires drop with Start (Accessory) or stay active through start (Ignition) to make sure.

Also, how do you guys like to make the connections? Do you use quick splices or just shave back the plastic jacket and twist the new wire onto the existing wire?

Solder the connections--this is the best way (and many would argue the only way) to make reliable connections.
