I installed the r/s myself and it went fine. Weather was cold recently and car did not start with the r/s but it did with the key. It happened again this week but the car's battery was at fault. One thing I noticed was that though it didn't start the parking lights were still on (which fooled us) and fan in the cab is running too.
It is programmed as tachless and I am assuming that's at fault? My wife left the car in that state for about 10 minutes thinking it started which drained the battery some more. I already replaced the battery and I just don't want it to happen again just in case.

Hardwiring the tachwire will eliminate the problem, then relearn tach, If the ultra start does auto change to tachwire mode like the DEI units do otherwise you will need to change the setting first then relearn tach, and you should be good to go.

With the Ultra Start you must do a Factory Reset to change from Tachless to Tach Mode.  There is good news and bad news with the Factory Reset.

First the good news.  The Factory Reset will not lose the Flex Ignition Relay setting or the paired remote FOB's.  The bad news, it will return all other programming to Factory Defaults.  You will have to go back in and program all of those changes.  Other good news - the system will automatically do a Tach Learn the first time it is started with the key after the Factory Reset so make sure the tach wire is connected to a good tach source and the engine is warm.

Soldering is fun!

Well DEi products don't have that issue and I mainly prefer the DEI.

I hard wired the tach last Saturday night as suggested. Reset and re-learned. Now it does 3 (failed) starts and light goes away.
I will need a new bypass module because the cheap one does not want to work when it is cold but ok when it is warmed up.
Thanks for all the help.

If the bypass is giving you an issue when cold, then when it's cold reprogram the bypass to see if the tolerence is setting to low when cold. As resistence changes with temp.
