A few months ago I had a local car audio shop install a remote starter on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe SE. It was a $99 Groupon special, so I was very happy with the price and with the install job. At the time I was offered an "upgrade" to the next Avital unit which came with multifunction fobs and would allow me to unlock the doors after remote starting. I declined.
So now I'm wondering if I can program the unit to open the doors anyway. When I looked up the Avital manual online, it says that a single 1-second push of the button should unlock the doors after remote starting. The only things my one-button fobs do is start vehicle on two pushes of button, and turn off vehicle with one long 3-second push.
The annoying thing is that my Santa Fe will automatically re-lock the doors if they were locked in the first place and are not opened within 30 seconds of unlocking with the factory remote fob. And the same factory remote fob will not open the doors once the vehicle is remote started - so they need to be unlocked the old fashioned way - by inserting the key in the door. (This only applies while the engine is running from remote start.)
So,
1. Can I reprogram the unit to open the doors after remote starting via the remote start fob? If so, how?
2. Any idea where they installed the programmable part of the unit - under dash or in engine compartment, or some other place?
Thanks for any guidance on this!

Most likely they did not install the unlock/lock feature of this unit as per the $100 price tag and you decided not to upgrade to r/s with keyless.  The brain should be under the drivers side dash On the side of the brain where the black antenna cable plugs in there will be a white 3 pin socket which is for doorlocks. Also on the same side of the unit is a blue 2 pin plug and an led.   If nothing is connected in the 3 pin socket then atleast one wire will need to be run to the door unlock wire or the key cylinder wire and the unlock detection wire.

Thanks for the quick reply and place to start. One thing I didn't mention is that before the install my factory fob would unlock driver's door only, with one push, and remaining doors with second push. After install, factory fob unlocks all doors with one push.
I was hoping this might be a bit easier than hunting for the correct door unlock wire and tapping into it. I just wonder if I go through all of that trouble, is there any guarantee that the Avital fob will now unlock as described in the manual?
