I own a new body 99 Silverado.  This is probably a simple question but here it goes.  I'm installing a DEI Sidewinder 500ESP alarm.  I'm attempting to wire the door triggers.  I've located the wires.  The passenger door trigger seems to work fine, but the driver trigger always shows 12v, whether door is open or shut.  I've looked over the wire schematic for courtesy lights in the Haynes repair manual.  It shows a green and black wire labeled door handle switch that's located in the BCM.  I guess my question is would it work to tap into this wire because it looks like it goes to both doors.  If not what could cause the driver door trigger to do this and how would I go about installing a pin switch for this door?  Thanks

I am wondering myself....Isn't a door pin usually ground switched?  Anybody?

To add, should i hook the door switch wire to the instant trigger instead and just make a new door trigger?

Hey guys, here's some info about the Chevy pick-up:

  • The BCM is located behind the drivers side of the dash.  The plugs on the BCM face towards the rear of the vehicle.
  • Use tan for the drivers door located in pin B4 of the purple plug, and for the passenger door it will be a orange in pin B2 in the purple plug or dk.blue/white in pin B11 of the lt.blue plug, must diode isolate these wires.

That is why you must diode isolate each door from each other, otherwise you will get false readings in the circuit.

Hey Sparkyssb, not all door trigger systems are (-) ground. Ford uses a (+) system to engage the triggers so becareful when working on a FORD and also make sure you test with a DMM for circuit verification. Although we might think we know what we are taliking about in regards to wire colors..... not all vehicles that people own are STOCK ( meaning that if it had a previous owner.... who knows what they did to the electrical system ).

Jeff,

When I tested the tan wire it shows 12 volts when the door is open and shut.  I'm not sure why.  This is my problem.  But the blue/white wire for the passenger door shows ground when the passenger door is open.  I haven't wired the two together yet because the wire for the driver door doesn't seem to work.  I really appreciate your help.

That sounds very odd to me but if the door shows (+) when open & closed, you can use the (+) door trigger off the alarm and tie it into the driver door. You will still need to diode isolate each door trigger wire from each other so that they do not interfere with one another.
