I just installed the an avital 4200 remote start/alarm with the 555L. When i goto start the car with the key it does nothing, but when i reconnect the yellow wire it starts fine. So i reconnected the yellow wire with the bypass module installed then seperated the yellow wire and now the car will start fine with the key and wheni remote start, but the security light now comes on. I thought it might be the bypass module so i exchanged it with like 2 others, but it doesnt want to do anything till i rehook the yellow wires together and seperate them.

try a different brand/type of bypass specifically for the 04's. there are also "versions" of the software for a particular bypass, and if you get an older version, it won't work with the newest 04's...we had this problem too.  get a PLDATA module and you'll have no problems.  simple install that stays away from the yellow/black passlock wires.

So it's prolly the 555L that's messing up all together?   What 'bout that new passlock 3?   Is it a possibility that this vehicle might have that? I never heard of the pldata since my boss lady just now wants to carry just basic DEI brands.

Just curious, are you talking about the code wire or the starter wire when you said that the key wouldn't do anything? I have had a couple of the 555L bad out of the box but not 3 in a row.

most vehicles with Passlock III will have PK3 stamped on the key (but not always).  What software or other info source are you using for your installs?  It should tell you definitively which security it has (I can't remember off hand).

PLDATA will not work for PKIII.  the PKG3 or PKG4 bypass will be necessary for that.  I've not had any experience with the DEI bypasses.  I do know we've been using Autostart stuff for several seasons now with exceptional luck...

Get the PLDATA if you want a module. Or you can use a relay and a resistor.
Pin 30 goes to computer side of cut yellow passlock starter wire
Pin 87a goes to the key side of the yellow passlock starter wire.
Pin 87 goes to one side of the resistor and the other side of the resistor goes to the black passlock ground wire
Pin 85 gets ground out when running from the RS
Pin 86 goes to the Ignition wire.
To measure the resistence, start the car then cut the yellwo passlock starter wire. Strip back the key side and strip back an inch of the black passlock ground wire. The put one DMM probe on the key side and the other on the black wire, then reverse the leads and get a resistor withing 5% of the higher of the 2 resistences.
If you use this method, you will need to make sure to turn the key to start before hitting the break to turn the RS off or else the theft light will turn on. There should be a factory anti-grind feature so there is not need ot install one.
This is actually very easy to do. But like I said use a PLDATA if you can. The install only requires Power, ground, ground out when runninf from the RS and then a single connection to the data line at the OBDII connector.

Use a relay and a resistor then like I suggested.
