I'll be installing an alarm in a friend's windstar soon. Am I correct in assuming this is a negative type door lock system?

I did some searching and found this post: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=5533&KW=windstar. I assume this means the wires for the power door locks are accessable behind the drivers side kick panel? That sounds nice and easy.

Next question is about the alarm. My friend bought a cheapo K-9 alarm on ebay (model: K9-FIVE). The wiring manual on it says it requires relays (or optional DLS) for the power locks regardless of the type of system. However, according to the manual it "gives 500ma. negative pulse to work relays that will operate your door lock system..." Why should it need additional relays then?

Anyway, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Manuals aren't always written the best are they! The 95 Windstar will use a negative type doorlock system if the vehicle was equipped with factory keyless. Lock is pink / YELLOW and unlock is pink/light green. The wires are found in a harness above thedriver's kick panel that runs vertically next to the firewall. If the wires don't test as a ground type then they are 5 wire polarity reversal. If this is true then, yes you will require relays to wire up the door locks.

if it gives out 500ma. you dont need relays for a negative lock system.

and about the windstar: if your vehicle was manufactured after 10/11/94 it is a regular negative pulse.  Otherwise, if it has OEM keyless it is a negative pulse. If it doesn't have OEM keyless it is a reversal at rest negative system. hope this helps
