Ive got a few problems that are coming up since ive installed this alarm.  They seem like easy fixes I probably dont know about.

First off, let me say the alarm is a Delta Panther 5005 Alarm.  The choice of the Vehicle owner.

My first problem is: The alarm is quite moody.  Sometimes it works from 30-40 yards away, sometimes I have to be inches of the antenna to arm/disarm it.  Could this be due to my antenna placement?  The antenna is a goofy shape, so I put it behind the interior trim in the drivers A pillar.  If mounting it somewhere else could rectify this problem, where would it be?  The top of the winshield?

My other problem is ill arm the alarm, and I think it gets cut off by the GEM module.  We'll return to the car, to have the LED not on at all, and the alarm wont respont to commands with the remote.  If I unlock it though, the alarm seems to wake back up.  I havent checked lately, but I dont remember what state its in after we do this.  Is the GEM module causing this?  I looked around, but didnt really find an answer how to eliminate the problem.

Also, I isolated all my door triggers according to DEI's wiring guide.  All intrusions set off the alarm, except the most important one.  The drivers door.  According to the DEI sheet, I believe the wire is yellow/black.  I found two of them, nether showing +12 or ground with the door open.  I thought my connections were possibly bad, but they all check out all right, and when the door opens it still triggers the dome light.  Is the guide wrong, or should I be doing something else?

Thanks

I guess that'll solve my Drivers door switch problem.

Anyone have a clue about the others?

In a 2001 explorer the GEM shut downs after two minutes to conserve power, that is why your alarm keyless don't work. you need to hook the unlock wire to the door ajar wire and set it to double pulse, also hook up the factory alrm disarm if needed.   the first pulse will wake up the module and the second will unlock the doors. hope this info helps

I have the alarm wired to all door triggers, and the Factory disarm hooked up too.  I havent yet changed the unlock output to double pulse.

Anyone know if there is a way to disable the GEM?  Possibly where its located?

Problem # 1: Relocate the antenna to various spots in the vehicle. Get another person to help you and use two phones to communicate the function confirmation while you are moving the antenna around and going farther away from the vehicle.

Problem # 2 : The GEM doesn't interfere with the arming of the alarm, only the disarming of the alarm, but in your case it is the opposite. Check to see that your power wire for the polarity selector is on a constant power source ( if the system has one ) Go straight to the ignition power for this connection. Does the alarm get set off if you try to open the door when it is not responding to the remote control ??
