I just bought a 1990 Acura Legend equipped with an Automate 7 alarm system. My son drove the car home for me, then we locked it. When we hit the button to unlock it again, all the alarm sounds went off--continuously--until we were able to disconnect the battery. I've read the alarm company's brochure that came with the car (which frankly isn't very explicit in terms of how to use it.) So, my questions are these:
1) How exactly am I supposed to normally unlock the car? The brochure says to hold the button down until you hear two 'chirps' (except that this was during the din of the alarm going off and I couldn't hear any chirps, and having pushed the button did nothing to stop the sounding alarms.)
2) If you're in a situation where something has set the alarm off, accidently or otherwise, how do you stop/reset it?
Thanks for any help you can offer. My sons are anxious to get out and test drive this car, but until we can turn off the din, we're outta luck.

There should be a valet switch mounted somewhere accessible.  Try holding it in while turning the key in the ignition to override it.  It that doesn't work,  find the brains of the alarm and remove the fuzes until you can have a professional check it out.
Do it right the first time
