Need alarm recommednation for 05 Chev Z71 Silverado 1500 crewcab with power windows, doorlocks, class2 radio, no Onstar-XM-DVD player.  Truck has custom rims and tires that need some type of protection.  Local shop recommends Viper 791 with remote start.  I don't need remote start and hear horror stories about bad installs.   I've done installs before but not on newer trucks with dababuss.  Need brand and model recommendation that will cover doors, hood and motion with audio siren and  if possible using factory keyless remote.  Thanks in advance.

You can use the new Compustar PRO series 2WFM-A with the 900 Mhz for added range as well as these units have inputs for additional devices such as perimeter sensor or tilt sensors. Comes with a dual impact sensor as well as hood, door and trunk trigger inputs. You will need a module for the Passlock II system on this truck as well as door lock interface module. The iDatalink  ADS-DL-GM will do all you want as far as triggers, bypasses and also tach ( if you ever want to add remote start in the future ).

Thanks for your reply.  Is the 2WFM-A and ADS-DL-GM plugins to the truck/each other or am I going to have to ID wires and solder?

We don't recommend getting motion perimeter detection. Most are done with ultrasonic sensors and are affected by temperatures of the air around the car and may trigger false alarms. Best to stick with window, door, shock and trunk/hood sensors.

CompuStars = REALLY GOOD!!! The only tiny tiny little thing we say against it is that you have to replace the battery in the remote every few months.

Vipers are ok too, but better to get Crime Guard. They are made by the same manufacturer (along with about 80% of alarms out there) and distributed under different distributers. You'll pay a lot less and get a lot more features. The warranty on CGs usually tend to be better too. (depending on model)

They will now plug into each other. iDatalink is partially owned by the same person that owns Compustar. They are designed to work with each other and now with the Pro series that uses the 232 data port, there's no more security issues with the ground when running wire. If you use the databus ( 232 connection ) then there's no security issues because the databus controls the ground when running trigger via the internal circuitry.
