Hey Guys, I was recently asked to put a r/s into a 2006 pontiac torrent. Looks fairly straight forward with the exception of 2 items. One is the info I have says a connection to the starter wire is not neccessary, is that correct. Also the info I have says the factory alarm can only be disarmed with the factory remote, if so, how do you get around this for remote start, or is it neccessary to disarm the alarm system for remote starting.

Any help or insight into this vehicle would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you in advance

The Torrent has no starter wire. The truck will start when it sees the correct Passlock II signal and the brown second accessory wire loses power. Not all Passlock II modules work on this truck. I use a PLXR from bypasskit.com.   The factory alarm will only arm and disarm from the factory remotes. You can try seeing if it will disarm if you start the truck with a key, but I doubt it will work. Tell the customer to not use them anymore and you won't have a problem. If they still want an alarm, then sell them a remote starter/alarm system instead. I am not aware of any modules that can yet arm/disarm the alarm.

Disarms all by itself with remote start.
I've used the Audiovox AS-GM4 Passlock bypass module with no problems.
If they want to keep their factory alarm, just hook up remote-start-only from your system; no locks. They'll have to carry both remotes.
If they don't like the idea of carrying two remotes, you can hook up your doorlocks and tell them to forget about having an alarm.....or sell the an alarm/starter combo.

First thing you want to do is test to see if the alarm arms using the switch on the door, and then go from there. Most new gm's (equinox, cobalt, torrent) are from the remote, or the door switch. Another weird thing I haven't been able to pinpoint some are from the remote only, and some from the remote and/or the door switch. The alarm will also shutoff with ign and a valid passlock signal in most cases.
