Hello all of you electronics wizards, I got a problem which I'm sure somebody could help me with. 1996 Chevrolet K1500, 6.5 Diesel; I installed an Autostart AS1525 and only when temp hits around freezing point 32F 0r  0c, the remote will just crank a fraction of a second and will stop. I was told to get my tach signal on the white wire behind instrument cluster which I did, but it still does the same thing when cold. When the engine is hot, the engine start very best with the remote starter. The glow plug wire is connected with the ignition wire to give it a 20 second delay for the plugs to warm-up.

I'm open to suggestions

Make sure that the power connections for the remote starter are good. You must have the ground for the remote starter into a clean and paint free point of the vehicle chassis and not a steel brace in the dash. This point is very important and usually overlooked. Once this is done, reprogram your tach setting into the remote starter. It is referenced off the ground. Make sure that the battery cables are clean, free of corrosion and tight. Check the battery ground to the body. It could probably be improved knowing GM grounds. Try using the white wire off the alternator for Tach. It will be a better source.

Thanks Sparkie for the quick response; the ground is effectively attached on a factory bolt (bare metal) on a brace(pipe 1"dia) which runs from driver kick panel to pass kick. I will check the factory grounds and I will try my tach on the white wire on the alternator. I'll get back to you if the same problem occur.

Make your own ground ie shoot a self tapper in with a star lock washer. Factory bolts are generaly not good grounds.

Like I said and xtremej said. Use the body for a ground and NOT the dash steel bracing. The dash is not a good source for ground in any vehicle. I wish I had a nickel for everytime I had to fix an install for a bad ground.
