Hi Guys.

I recently installed some door handle leds and I connected them to the dome light so they would come on when I unlock the car, but there is a problem. I have an alarm installed and all that happens when I unlock the car with the alarm key fob is the lights just flash, but if I unlock the car with my factory fob, headlights turn on along with tail lights and the dome lights so the leds light up.

I have the CompuStar Pro P2WSSR and the XK06 GM Override Interface, but I'm assuming the Chevy's BCM controls the approach lighting? any ideas as to how I can make the approach lighting work with my alarm key fob? is it possible for my alarm to control whatever relays the factory key fob uses for the approach lighting?

Is there dome light supervision on compustar?

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.

Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

I'm not sure if there is, I talked to the tech that installed my alarm today and he's telling me it's gonna cost me $100 to make the approaching lights work with my alarm.

You have a couple options -

One, use the factory disarm output of your alarm to trigger a relay that closes the contacts of your OEM remote. To do this you will have to hack up an OEM remote and permanently install it under the dash. When you disarm the aftermarket alarm it will simulate pressing the OEM unlock and all your lights will light up. One side effect of this is you may end up unlocking your doors twice (once with the aftermarket alarm, once with the OEM alarm). A solution here would be to always let the OEM alarm unlock the doors (disconnect the aftermarket unlock wire - in fact you could even use the aftermarket unlock wire to trigger the relay to push the button for you).

A second option would be to simply rewire the door handle LED with a time delay relay. You could trigger the relay with the unlock output of the alarm and set it to ~30 seconds. When the relay sees a single pulse it will stay energized for 30 seconds and keep the LEDs lit. I know PAC has a TR-7 and DEI has something similar.
