Apologies if this is a silly question. I have a SPDT that is in a circuit in which current passes through the coil leads and continue to another load to provide power. The relay does lock in and out when voltage is applied from the source, but the ciruit after the coil has no power. Testing with a volt meter, the coil terminal that comes direct from the power supply has correct voltage, but the other side of the coil has no voltage. The switches are fine and the relay seems to work, but it will not provide power downstream. Is this an unusual circuit? Should I have voltage showing on both sides of the coil?

Thanks,

jmk

One side of the coil should be POS (+), 86. The other side NEG (-), 85.

And whatever voltage is on 30 will be connected to 87 - ie, that is the "power" circuit.
Well deciphered Howard - I thought the downstream load was a coil, or maybe that the downstream load was powered thru the relay coil...

Actually Peter the right answer to this question should be "read the tuition section on relays".
And somewhere down the line our poster is going to have to show us the circuit and learn about quenching diodes, especially as I understand with it two relays in sequence.
