I was wondering if anyone can help me out on what the diagram should look like for the lock/unlock wires in a 2003 ford escape.  The unlock is a negative trigger and lock is negative through a 1k ohm resistor. It's a single wire multiplex system.  Do I need to place a diode in line?

No you would not need to use a diode.  You would simply connect the unlock wire of the alarm to that wire.  And then connect the lock wire of the alarm to the resistor and connect the other end of the resistor to the same place you connected the unlock wire.   If you do not want to have to deal with the resistor, Audiovox has the following info on that vehicle.
