I'm trying to locate a tach wire on a 2000 chevy silverado. I know I can get one at any of the coils, but which one? they are all colored different. It also says I can get a signal at a pin in the red connector at a module under the hood near the battery. I don't know how to count the pins, any help would be appreciated.

The module they are talking about is next to the battery. It has two plugs. The tach wire is in the top plug. There are 3 or 4 white wires in there. You need to test them and the one that reads about 6-7 volts AC when the truck is running is the wire that can be used as tach. If you want to get it at a coil the color will vary for each coil. If I remember correctly, each coil has 4 wires. Each coil will have 3 wires that are the same color. The 4 wire color will vary for each coil and that is the wire you use.
