Hello,
I am wanting to put an alarm system with auto start on my 06 Saturn Ion. When I called the alarm guys in town they said they may or may not be able to do so depending on whether or not the car had 'multiplex wiring' in it; they explained this as being where there is one wire that does everything, or something like that. They said that in certain newer vehicles they'd had to remove their equipment if this was the case.
So basically, I'm just wondering if this is the case with the 06 Ion and if it's possible to put an aftermarket alarm system in this car. It has powered locks and truck button, etc as needed. Just not sure if the internal wiring will support an aftermarket alarm system.
Thank you for any help you can offer :)

First of all find another shop that knows what they are talking about. Secondly, if your car has a factory remote keyless entry, it may already have an alarm. Close the doors with you inside and press the lock button on the remote. Wait for 30 seconds and manually unlock and open the door by moving the small lever in the car and pulling the handle. If you have an alarm it will go off and you can disarm it with the remote's unlock button. Now go and find a shop that has staff who know what they are talking about. Even if your car has an alarm you can still add another and one with a remote starter in it. The downside to the factory alarm is that it will only disarm with the factory remote, so you can't have the new alarm arm/disarm the factory one with one remote.

No factory alarm or keyless entry at all.
So no tricky, strange wiring here? just standard stuff?
He said that on newer vehicles like the 07 Nissan Murrano or whatever, aftermarket alarm/keyless entry stuff doesn't work because of the new computerized wiring stuff won't work with it.
I'll check around, but these guys are pretty much the biggest outfit in my city. hrm..
