Is it hard to install Cruise Control units?

My lady has a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport - no factory cruise.

She'd love to put one in, and I'dlove to install it for her.  I'm pretty good at different types of installs, but I've only really messed with stereos and minor electrical mods - I've never tried to install a cruise unit before.

There are aftermarket and OEM units available - any tips on how difficult either would be to set up in her truck?  The OEM units are obviously more expensive - do they generally provide any benefit, other than maybe a more factory appearance for the switches, etc.?

Should I even try this if I've never done one before, and have no one to "hold my hand" and show me what to do?  I'm sure I could get all the necessary wiring diagrams/colors, and as long as the instructions are specific, how much harder is it than wiring up a stereo?

Hey hihoslva,

I've installed plenty of cruises and there is nothing to be afraid of.  Obviously you have to be mechanically inclined to attach the cable to the linkage but all the hardware is included.  Go to your local Jeep dealer,  pop open a hood and see how the linkage is connected and where the servo is installed then go home and immitate the same.  The best cruises on the market are made by Rostra and they have the factory look and feel to the column switches.  They even offer tech support -tach, VSS and other info at http://www.rostra.com/technical.htm and their product page is http://www.rostra.com/cruise-control.htm
