I tried making a flip flop trunk lid for my grilfriends 97 grand am, but it won't stay down on the back by the window when it closes. It opens and looks fine. I would greatly appreciate it, and so would my girlfriend, if yall could help me out. Thanks a mill!

Not an expert in the field...but I think more details like mechanisms and installation (at the minimum) and some pictures (very advisable) would hep in someone being able to help you.

Got a shot of how it looks right now? Trying to visualize what could be the problem.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

do you want it to open this way all the time or just show? if it is jsut for show, what i did with mine was drill holes through the hinge where the bolts holes are for the factory bolts and put the bolts in for everyday use. then when i showed it, i had a 10mm socket and i took out the 4 bolts and it flipped down. or you can go to the hardware store and buy those slide latches that turn up... slide and turn back down to lock in place, mount that on the trunk lid and drill a hole in the factory trunk hinge so you can slide it into there and that will keep it down. then all you have to do is open the trunk, slide the latches in, and your trunk will flip down. i know its probably kinda hard to understand what im trying to say without pics, but if you have some pics of your setup and i can explain better.

i have here a poor mans way of flip/floping the trunk and you can use it both ways without the lip lifting up in the corners like you have. and it only costs around $10.00to do. i would put it up but i dont have a scanner to do so. it is step by step with pics. i could send you a copy if needed. just email me your address (po box or somthing in that sort if you dont want me to have your addy)  email = phamby@charter.net if not i think you can get this on ebay for around $6.00.

I dont really like this mod.. ot only looks good on SOME cars.. it was a cool mod when it first came out, but i see it over done alot..

i got these instructions a long time ago, and thought i would just share...

they were apparently what they were selling on Ebay...

not very professional to sell...  but they look liek they'll get the job done...however, the part about removing the 1 bolt seems to work the best.. these instructions seems to make me think you MIGHT get that rear part of the lid to stay up??

hope this helps someone out there

P.S. I havent actually tried this, nor do i think i every will, my current car has different hinges, and will not work
