Does anyone know how they make the Hper LED's 10 times brighter then regular LED's???
They have a resistor pack on them, so y couldnt we make them from regular LED's?
I see that you can get 4 hyper led's for $20

Has anyone used or seen these LED's in action?

I'm wondering, if i goto radioshack and buy the Super Bright LED's there and put a 680ohm resistor in the line... would they be the same brightnes orrrrr what?

if you want ultra-bright LEDs, go to radio shack and get GaAlAs (gallium aluminum arsinide) red LEDs.
they have a clear casing but illuminate in red.
VERY bright.. I think in the 1600mcd range.
I use a yellow one for my alarm LED.
just use ohm's law to figure out the resistor you need based on the LED's forward current rating and your alarm (or whatever)'s output voltage (usually 12, 5, or 2.1V) to calculate resistor rating needed.
I used to use a pair of these in my dodge shadow, one in each door sill by the locks, for my alarm. made it VERY easy to see them from about a hundred yards away on a hill. hehe

I'm actually planning on getting the blue ones and installing a few of them in my heater vents, by the pedals... and whereever else seems dark Hyper LED's -- posted image.

they sell a 5-volt blue LED with clear package as well.
very bright. i have a few here.
part number 276-311
5V, 30mA, 300mcd Blue LED
forward voltage>
normal: 5.0V
max 6.0V
lens color: clear
they sell a yellow one for which I can't find the part number off hand that's 2.1V forward current, and 1600mcd
bright as hell hehe I use one for my alarm.

If you're looking for another option besides GlassWolf's (I think they're brighter but I haven't seen the ones he is talking about), you can try

Radio Shack part number 276-316
3.7 volt, 20 mA, 2600 mcd
forward voltage>
normal: 3.7V
max: 4.5V
lens color: clear

btw, the yellow one he's talking about is part number 276-301

I went on an LED buying spree the other night
2.1 volt, 30mA, 1600mcd
forward voltage>
normal: 2.1V
max 2.8V
lens color: clear

hope that helps,

-Erik

hey GlassWolf, when you wired the multiple LEDs to your alarm, did u use a relay to connect them all, or wire them in parallel?  The way I have my car setup is one of the LED scanners cuts on as soon as I kill the ignition, so even if my alarm is off, the LED is going to deter would be thieves.  Then I have the stock/regular red LED in the dash that operates in line with the alarm.  But I would like to add more..

"Super bright" is only 1600mcd? Hyper LED's -- posted image.

Digikey sells red-orange and super orange leds (2.0v, 50ma, 5mm) that puts out 9000mcd.

Of course, if you want to go all out, there's Luxeon's Star/O red LED that puts out 825cd (825,000 mcd), but it takes 5v, 380ma and requires a heat sink for continuous use.

Where can I get blue LEDs that put out ~3000mcd? This will be used to light up amps but I don't want to neon.

look at a 1600mcd yellow dead on, and it's blinding heh
the bright blue ones everybody loves are only 300mcd.
(yes, three hundred)
when I wired mine I wired the two in parallel.. worked fine.

How much do those 300mcd blue ones sell for? For $4.54, digikey sells 4v, 5mm, 1500mcd leds. For some reason, most of the blue 300+ mcd leds sell for $4.54... only 25c cheaper than radio shack...
