You definately want to get a kit that has a separate 9600 volt transformer. I suggest the Street Glow gold series or the Fusion underbody kit.

The Varad underbody kit is probally what you want. It is LED based and uses the square LED's so you get  amore even effect.

I have had some issues with rocks cracking the tubes (I also have got the cheap ones too). Are there ones that have stronger tubes or 1is there a better place to mount them (under the  sideskirt vs inside the sideskirt)?

Thats a big advanage to the LED based kits. If the tube cracks it doesnt matter. They are also brighter and dont require those big ass transformers that can get kinda dangerous if they short out.

How are they with cold weather (not snow but low temperatures) or would you recommend taking them off in the winter?

The tubes get more brittle so if you have neon its in trouble
