My friend who works at circuit city got an underglow installed in his 1993 or 94 jeep.  Once the installers went to hook everything up, only the side neons would go on, and they determined that the reason for this was because the transformations for the front/back tubes was defective.  My friend got the replacement transformer and has been waiting for it to be installed, but because he is an employee at circuit city, his car is last priority.  I told him I could install the new transformer since all the wiring was all ready, just needed to be connected.  Before I hooked up the new transformer, just for the heck of it i wanted to make sure the side neons were still workin, but of course oddly enough they didnt.  He had them lit up last night, but we didnt check before I started messing with things.  The only thing I did as far as the power wire is concerned is underscrew the inline fuse holder just to check out what size fuse it used.  I see the red power wire they ran is tapped into a purpleish wire with black stripe under the dash.  What is this wire that the circuit city installers tapped into, and is it a possibibly i blew a fuse for this wire when I pulled out the inline fuse holder without disconnecting the battery.  If i found out what that wire was and which fuse it corresponded with, i would try testing the fuse.  I wanted to disconnect the battery to due the install, but all the connections were corroded and I couldnt get the cable off.  Anyways I feel bad that nothing works, and im curious as to if I screwed it up or not.  LIke I said only thing I touched in regards to power was the inline fuse holder..

this is a bit off topic of what you're asking, but do neons actually look good under a jeep?  i have a 99 jeep cherokee and i've always debated the idea of putting neons underneath.

is the system a single tansformer or  individual transformer for each light? I will tell you I don't reccomend neons, LED's are much more reliable. The transformers on neon's go out all the time. WE sold countless street glow gold series lights and had nothing but problems with the transformers. I switched to Varad LED's and only had one comeback because the tube leaked water. All three of the other tubes still worked.

Think about it this way:  Neon's need a transformer to create 10,000 volts to light up the gasses in the GLASS tube. A moving vehicle that hits potholes railroad tracks and road debris that operates on a 12 volt system. Some how glass tubes under the car with 10,000 volts running through them next to metal doesn't seem safe!! I feel more comfortable with LED's that operate with less than 12 volts and now are as bright as neon, Plus you can get Color Changing and motion!!!!

Anyways, back to your question.  if it is a single transformer, check your power  and the transformer itself grounds itself when you bolt it down. so make sure you are grounded correctly. then make sure all wires are connected tightly. If they are individually powered by separate transformers then you have to have a blown fuse or bad switch beacuse one should at least light up.

On this particular kit which I think is made by "redline" there is one transformer for each pair of lights.  So there is one transformer for the front and back neons and one for the sides.  I didnt touch any of the connections, so I dont know why the side tubes dont work.  Like I said the power wire circuit city ran comes from a pinkish wire with black stripe under the dash.

No i didnt check that wire, because I couldnt find my volt meter lol...   But I just assume since I didnt mess with it, it should still be live.  I have only been doing car installs for a little, not professionally or anything, but Im starting to get pretty good at doing different electronics in cars.  My question is, since I cant disconnect his battery on the car, do to the corrosion, is it safe to just pull out random fuses in the fuse box, and test them to see if they are all working?
