Ahoy 12volters:

How ya'll think this would handle a 100hz - 4khz bandpass?

I'm especially interested in the upper end of that - would there be any upper-end off axis response?

Retail for $480, on sale for $119? Watch out for fake copies Jamie. That happened with some Focal stuff a few years ago. Numbers look good though.

I've had two pairs of the Ti-Elite and found them to be less than durable. Three out of four drivers failed mechanically in six months. The surrounds get soft with ambient heat and the spider doesn't keep the VC centered.
Even though they are made by Morel, it is not the same driver in their Elate set. Below 120hz they dropped off quick. I cut them off around 3K active. I used a Zapco C2k-4.0 with a EQ-31 and just couldn't get the presents out of them.
I changed the PG's out to Seas Lotus and it was a night and day difference. I'm running them active from 65-3khz and have been very happy. Actually I have pulled the 1/3 octave EQ and run them flat.
I will try to find the review of 7" drivers that was posted that offers some great suggestions.

might be worth your while, for $125 or so shipped!
Parts Express is very cool on returns.

I myself have had great luck with the Ti-Elite 6 set, and had them put side to side with my Morel Elates, and they are infact the exact same thing (visually), the crossover is built by PG which results in the funky midbass response below 150hz, or absolute lack there of. I ran them highpassed at 250hz though so they worked wonderfully for me and were not stressed at all. But as a midbass woofer, I would for sure recommend to look elsewhere such as the CCS SDX7 (Adire extremis design), AA Poly, and Boston Acoustic SPZ woofers.

!!

Naww Bob - Good lookin on the warnin but I'm a judicious shopper - really.  Having purchased the 5-1/4 version of this particular midwoofer, a pair I mean, a few years ago - from PG directly for $150 - I believe this is inline with realistic numbers.  A retail number like $480 is sort of like the 'max' number on an amp right?!  This is an out-of-production speaker sold through a second-hand retailer - $120 is right on eh! =)

I'm asking precisely because I'm so enamoured with the performace of the 5-1/4 version that I'm using to run the same bandpass in that I inquire about in the OP - having room for a larger variant I was wondering if anyone would tell me what is wrong with that bandpass given the speaker size - 'beaming' and all that.

!  Dude I totally appreciate your thoughts here, but I need a shallow-mount speaker !  This stuff won't work with my situation! =(

Whoa!  Again,  I appreciate your feedback here, and Parts Express is totally awesome, but that midwoofer I don't believe would work with my installation situation - I need a shallow mount-midwoofer - here a prime reason for the interest in the PG speaker.  Sadly, I can't fit a deeper midwoofer . . .  =(

Can you expand on this a bit Alpine Guy?  Are you saying that the passive xover provided by PG didn't quite cover what was expected from the speaker?  I'm looking at an active bandpass of 100 - 4khz - is this unrealistic or unrealistic from the passive xover that came with the the speaker?
