problem with my aftermarket radio

i got a new radio ( apline )
hook it up with a aftermarker harness
( hooked up plenty of radios before )
yellow to yellow
red to red
Doesnt power on
when i put all 4 of them together ( yellow and yellow red and red ) ... it works
but once the car is off it turns off
car is back on it doesnt turn on automatically
i have to press any button for it to come on
and all my presets ( radio startions , bass setting )
get deleted and i have to do it all over again
and thats EVERYTIME i turn the car off and on
i have NO idea what can it be
please help

its a 2000 dodge caravan
i had a Jensen 9312hd in it before
it did the same thing , but it saved my setting
but now this alpine is not doing so
its a Alpine CDA ... not sure about the numbers

The problem seems to be that there is no 12 volt constant running to the radio. The radio losing its presets, and memory is a clear indication to me. When you tied in all four of the wires together it was receiving a 12-volt ignition. If you have a voltmeter I would check to see what the voltage of the constant (yellow) wire is with the car off. With the car turned off it should be getting a reading of 12 volts. If it’s not receiving 12 volts it could be a blown fuse, or a partially blown fuse. The cars manual should say the location of the radios fuse. Check continuity of the fuse. If its not getting continuity its a blown fuse, simple fix. I would also recommend not hooking up your illumination wires (orange) it can lead to problems with doge vehicles. I usually will only hook them up in older fords if a customer requests them. Hope this helps

i checked ALL the fuses , their all fine
i tried everything ... can it be the after market harness could be bad ?
because i had a pioneer before and it worked fine
then i got a jensen flip out , it did the same thing as the alpine is doing ... but it held all my radio stations and stuff

You need to get a meter and check for voltage on the Yellow wire of the aftermarket radio. When you say you checked all of the fuses, did you look in your vehicle's owners manual to see if that vehicle has multiple fuse locations. Without the meter, we are chasing our tail.

alright guys i went to radio shack and bought a
15-Range Digital Multimeter
and i have absolutely no idea how to use it
can anyone tell me what i should do with it ...

If it only has 2 places to plug the leads into, it should be obvious for you.  If it has more than 2 spots for the leads, one is Probably labeled V - Ohms, this is the one you want to plug the red lead into.  The black lead plugs into the one labeled Common.  Set it to the DC Volts setting.  If it has multiple ranges within the DC Volts section, set it to the 20 Volts scale.  If it has 2 Voltage settings but does not signify AC or DC, set it to the one with the Straight line and the dashed line.  That is DC.  The AC Volts setting is signified by a WaveForm.   With the meter set to the proper setting, touch and hold the black meter lead to the Chassis of the radio.  Now touch the red lead to the Yellow wire of the harness that plugs into the original radio harness of the vehicle.  From what you are saying this is probably not going to show 12 volts.  If it does not, get your owners manual and see if you can find the location of the fuse.  There are 2 fuses that power the radio.  There may be only 1 labeled radio.  The other one may be labeled lighter, courtesy dome.  If you can not locate it with the owners manual, turn the key on , turn the parking lights on, touch and hold the black lead to the chassis of the vehicle.   On every fuse in the fuse box there are 2 contact areas the you can touch the meter lead to.  Touch the red lead to one contact of that fuse, notice the reading, then check the other contact.  If you find a fuse that reads 12 V on one contact and has no 12 v on the other, pull it out and inspect it.  Make sure you notice the location before you pull it out.  There are probably more than a few empty locations in the fusebox.
